Miao Baby Carriers

An introduction to the largest extant collection of vintage embroidered baby carriers made by the people of the Chinese minority cultures.

The skills used to create these beautiful objects are rapidly disappearing from the tribal groups that have traditionally practiced them.

These baby carriers are both ethnographic artifacts and works of art.

The collection is comprised of over 5,000 unique embroideries, representing 50 different styles and many ethnicities, including Miao embroidery, Dong, Shui, Buyi, Geija, Yao, and Zhuang folk.

Here are some examples...

Items from the collection can be made available to scholars for academic research and to museums and galleries for display.

Please forgive the less-than-ideal image quality of the photographs on this website.  These are utility pictures which were originally taken for reference purposes only.  The baby carriers will eventually be professionally re-photographed.

This website will be updated with additional information.
